Throw your dreams into space…
On kite-flying and living life

I’m a hopeless romantic
It’s essentially an oxymoron -
“Hopelessness is an emotion characterized by a lack of hope, optimism, and passion”.
A Romantic — “characterized by, or suggestive of an idealized view of reality”.
On the other hand, it also means that the romantic is so far gone that there is no hope anymore:
I’m a hopeless romantic
and when you said that you
could feel the warmth of where I was,
hear the birds singing happily
through the phone,
even though you were freezing your ass off
half-way around the world,
miles and miles away,
something clicked in me
that couldn’t be switched back as easily.
Each time,
your voice, your pictures, your unique perspective of the world,
just drove me to wonder:
“Did I deserve this irrefutable evidence of the connectedness of souls and the universe?”
A sign clearly, desperately, fluttering.
Little did I recognize that it was my own heart which was fluttering about,
thrown into space
taking a leap of faith in the hopes of bringing back something…
I think there is strength in vulnerability, but there is no doubt that
once you’ve “thrown your dreams into space like a kite”,
you may bring back something great,
but you may also suffer some tears and tangles on the way.
But of course, that is the nature of kite-flying.
You must be willing to try and try again.
But perhaps keeping a better eye on the weather next time.
